Amadi's Food Mart will become the 22nd licensed premises on or around a 1.5 mile stretch of Moston Lane if given the green light by town hall chiefs next week.
At the moment, there are eight off licences, six pubs, four supermarkets and three small independent food shops on or around Moston Lane which are all able to sell alcohol.
Stephen Holt, chair of the Parkmount Residents Association, said: "It doesn't matter how the shop is branded, if it is selling alcohol it will encourage more of the problems that mean local people dare not venture onto Moston Lane on a weekend night.
Amadi's Food Mart, a Polish grocery store, would be able to sell booze between 8am and 9pm if their application is approved and have agreed to accept a number of police conditions regarding the safe selling of alcohol.
But local people, who claim the street has become blighted by drunken yobs and anti social behaviour, say the opening of any new licensed premises would only make the issues worse.
Moston Lane was first branded 'alcohol alley' by ward councillors in 2009 after concerns were first raised about the number of outlets in the area.
He said: "If it was a full off licence just selling alcohol we would automatically object to it and that remains our stance but this shops is predominantly selling food and closes early.
"My fear is that if we object to cases like this and Nike Jordan 5 Am it gets overturned at the Magistrates Court, it weakens our position if an off licence application comes in. We need to make sure we focus and have a firm line on the types of outlets that are causing the real problems."
